One of the best-kept secrets in Asia has to be the beautiful island of Taiwan that has some of the best riding and tri training terrain available anywhere in the world!
In Motion Asia featuring in the Trip Advisor section of the popular TriMag Asia exploring how In Motion Asia came to be & our customized road cycling tours including the inaugural tour with the Hong Kong Dragons Triathlon Club!
Many thanks to the great crew at TriMag Asia - Sarah & Simon Wheeler.
Cam McLean runs In Motion Asia, a company that specializes in outdoor adventures including road riding, mountain biking, rock climbing and rafting. Cam, a native of New Zealand really knows his stuff....& runs rides in every part of Taiwan and even across the Central Island Link, the highest road in north East Asia. This monster of a climb begins at sea level and heads into the mountains finishing at 3,275 meters. That’s higher than the Alps!
In Motion Asia appearing in Bicycling Australia's WTR feature 'Northern Taiwan - History and Culture on Formosa'. We were privileged to spend a day with Bicycling Australia Chef Editor, Simon Hayes, showing him some of the excellent road cycling around the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area in Central Taiwan as part of his visit with the Taiwan Tourism Bureau in 2011.
Many thanks to Simon Hayes (Bicycling Australia) for a fun day & great article!
Arguably one of the most visually stunning routes is the legendary Central Cross Island - a mammoth 3-day ride that take you from one side of Taiwan to the other via the cloud-scraping 3,275m-high Central Cross Island Pass.
In Motion Asia contributing text & photos in Sports + Travel story 'Top to Bottom - Cycling Taiwan from Mountain to Coast' highlighting our epic road cycling tour from Sun Moon Lake in Central Taiwan, over the 3,275m Wuling Peak, and down to a soothing hot springs finish on Taiwan's East Coast!
Many thanks to Sports & Travel for the excellent presentation.
When it comes to adventure tourism destinations in Asia, Taiwan is one of the most underrated, although it hard to understand why. It has some of the most captivating scenery anywhere on the planet, towering mountains (including Northeast Asia's tallest), a smorgasbord of national parks, a selection of alluring offshore islands, and thanks to its volcanic past, numerous hot spring resorts.
In Motion Asia featuring in Sports + Travel's April 2011 article on Taiwan's Legendary NengGao West Line, one of the mountain biking trips we use to run deep into the Taiwan Central Mountain Range.
Thanks again to the cool guys at Sports & Travel for a great feature story.
Some of the world’s best deaf and hearing impaired cyclists gathered in Taiwan during the month of November to compete in a six day 950km race around the circumference of the island nation. It was the turn into a bi-annual “Tour de France” style of race that will provide high level competition for deaf riders and a chance to develop friendship ties with riders from many countries.
A supporting mention to In Motion Asia in the January 2011 edition of the NZ Endurance Magazine.
Great story & thanks to New Zealander Daniel Carruthers (Bikedan in Asia).
The pursuit of outdoor adventure in Southeast Asia’s tropical summer heat can be a mixed bag. While there are countless opportunities in the region for getting out and exploring some amazing terrain, the sweltering heat and humidity of many destinations can present a frustrating challenge for even the hardiest of souls as they embark on cycling, hiking, climbing, or other human-powered sports. A great solution is to take to the water, and one of the coolest outdoor adventures is found in the steep mountains and cascading river canyons of Taiwan, where groups of locals and foreigners alike swarm every spring and summer to beat the sweltering heat of summer: go canyoning!
IMA featuring in another Sports + Travel article on River Tracing in Taiwan.
Many thanks to Sports & Travel & also Matt Robertson (Climbstone) for the text. Matt worked with IMA during 2010-11 before moving back to the US.
In Motion Asia are well known for their biking trips in the interior of Taiwan but now they are adding another string to their bow. Partnering with Matt Robertson, a longtime resident of the country, they are opening up climbing adventures based on the sea cliffs of Long Dong...widely regarded as one of the Asia’s premier coastal climbing areas!
