We realize that taking a tour in a foreign country means that you probably have a host of questions. Here are some of the more popular questions for your reference.
How fit do I have to be?
Our tours cover mostly moderate with some challenging terrain. The fitter you are the more enjoyable the experience will be. We can customize tours to meet all levels and abilities. Please also check our tour grading in regards to the specific trip you are looking at.
How hard will it be?
No matter what your level or experience, everyone is usually a little bit apprehensive on the first day of riding. Will the group be too fast? Or will it be too slow? Will the terrain be too steep or technical? Or will it be too easy? Some of our trips are perfect for those new to adventure sport, while others will be challenging for even the most experienced adrenaline junkie! We will help you choose the right trip, and once you begin the trip, you will find your own pace with just the right amount of challenge.
How do I pick a suitable trip?
If you are just getting started we have trips that are suitable for you on gentle terrain that allows you to explore and build your confidence. We also offer tours that can only be described as EPIC adventures deep in the Central Mountain Range hours from civilization that will test the most experienced travelers. Under each trip we have included a tour grading and we also work with you closely throughout the selection process to ensure the trip is suitable for you and your group.
What are typical group sizes?
As we specialize in customized group itineraries, the group size is entirely up to you. We have organized events for groups in excess of 100 people and offer day rides for individuals in town just for a short time. For multi-day adventure trips our pricing is based on a minimum of 4 people although we have and do customize trips for less people. From time to time we organize open trips and quite often will have a small group looking for more people to join. Keep an eye on our ‘what’s new’ section on the home page of our website for details on these trips and other upcoming events.
What type of people join our tours?
Out tours are highly sociable adventures! Generally participants are aged between 25-55 with a mixture of clients from here in Asia, the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Europe, and Australasia. Everybody is welcome and the mixture of ages and nationalities is one of great aspects of our tours.
What about guide support?
Our guides are locally based and bilingual speaking which allows you to experience and get to places you would never find on your own. There are a number of reasons why having a guide is an advantage:
What’s in a typical menu?
During an adventure trip it’s important to eat well and all our food is healthy, fresh, and plentiful. We enjoy good local cuisine wherever possible and carry a full stock of supplies in our support vehicle. Typically meals are as follows:
How about accommodation?
Depending on the itinerary a mixture of mountain villas, hot spring resorts, lakeside cabins, and beachside bungalows. We pride ourselves on our choice of accommodation that is set is in beautiful locations with friendly hospitality and good food. Depending on your preference we can organize basic through to 5 star accommodation, and a selection of either twin share or private rooms.
Do we do anything besides biking?
Absolutely! Along with our road biking and mountain biking itineraries we offer combination adventure trips which contain a number of activities to chose from including white water rafting, river tubing, 4WD ATV quad bikes, zip lines, rock climbing, abseiling, hiking, gorge trekking, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, beach hopping and much, much more! There is also the option of including some additional fun adventure activities on our biking tours and of course we also offer corporate, family and women's trips!
What will the weather be like?
Taiwan has an oceanic and subtropical monsoon climate. Summers are hot, while winters are short and usually mild. The north tends to be several degrees cooler, and wetter than the tropical south. In winter the average monthly temperature ranges from 15 to 20°C across the island, while mid-30s are common in the summer with high humidity. Temperatures in the high mountains can be substantially lower than on the plains and provide the perfect place to escape from the summer heat, while the south provides excellent temperatures in winter. If you are not sure when to come, let us know and we will advise the best time of year to explore your desired destination.
Am I able to hire a bike and other equipment?
Yes, Taiwan is a bicycle manufacturing powerhouse and we have bikes and other equipment available that is suited to our tours. Contact us with your requirements.
What language do the guides speak?
All our tour guides and leaders speak English and Mandarin.
Are non-riding participants welcome?
Sure, but you must remember that these are adventure tours. There are plenty of fascinating towns, villages, markets, and scenic spots to keep anyone happy.
Can we bring the kids?
We don't encourage children less than 16 years of age on our standard trips. We have a number of wonderful itineraries that are specifically designed for families.
What is included?
The majority of our trips are fully supported and include everything from day one until the end of the tour. This includes meals, accommodation, transport, guides, and mountain permits.
What is not included?
International airfares, visas, insurance, spending money, optional extensions, or additional activities, any equipment & bike hire charges and additional drinks.
Do I need insurance?
While we take every precaution to make sure our trips are 100% safe, the very nature of outdoor adventure activities means nothing is accident proof. Travel insurance is compulsory on all In Motion Asia tours and is a condition of booking with us.
Visa requirements?
For most nationalities a visa is not required for stays of up to 30 days in Taiwan. You will be issued a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp by immigration upon arriving in Taiwan. Please check with your travel agent or local consulate for eligibility, documentation requirements, and any applicable fees.
Passport requirements?
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you complete your travels. You will also need to show an outward airline ticket to enter Taiwan. You may be required to show your passport when checking into hotels, buying airline tickets, changing money, etc. It is highly recommended that you make a note, or better still, take a photocopy or scan your passport details and keep this information separate from your passport.
Health requirements?
As one of Asia’s more highly developed destinations, Taiwan on the whole doesn’t present any significant health risks for foreign travelers. Most visitors will find that using the same precautions they exercise in their home countries will be more than enough. For the latest health requirements please check with your travel agent or local consulate.
How much is a typical trip?
It all depends on your logistics, level of accommodation, customized extra's and other variables and is the reason we have not put prices on our trips. We pride ourself on offering flexible trips to suit your needs and a complete service. Historically our lower end trips generally start around USD$200 per day while our top end trips can cost anywhere from USD$350 plus per day.
Should you have other questions not covered here or are unsure about an itinerary, date or grading please contact us and we will be more than happy to assist.
