The Northern Screamer 

One of In Motion Asia’s favorite mountain biking itineraries that takes you on a massive rollercoaster ride through the very heart of Taiwan’s mountainous interior! If the thought of cranking out big miles, up and down big hills, through big mountain scenery appeals, then the Northern Screamer is for you. The tour starts with arguably the best piece of single-track on the island in the shape of the NengGao Line. A gnarly old Japanese-era garrison trail that runs from between 2000-3000m high up in the mountains and includes some of the most pristine scenery you’ll find anywhere. We back this up with a monster 110km ride through the high alpine mountain roads of Shiueshan that includes a staggering 3500m plus accumulated descent! If you’re still alive after all that we treat you yet another great ride that takes you over the nearby mountain pass on a mixture of mountain road, hard-packed dirt trail, rocky single track and fast forest trails to a waiting hot spring and a well deserved cold beer! An outstanding 3 day itinerary that will leave you delirious for weeks!

The Striking Central Ridge 

Another superb combination that includes the world-class NengGao Line in an east to west combination that will leave you yearning for more. A wonderful itinerary of riding and exquisite landscapes cut out of Central Taiwan and the striking central ridge. The tour starts on the east coast out of Hualien where we proceed into the top of the magnificent rift valley and a ride that takes you through a collection of Aboriginal villages and deep into the lost world terrain. After watching the stars sparkle above our lakeside accommodation we need north into Taroko gorge and arguably the best scenery you will find on the island. The riding is also of a very high quality and we take you on a 50km route through the maze of single-track, trails, roads, and high suspension bridges that wind through the gorge. With sightings of monkeys fresh in our mind we pass the 3200 year old Lunta Fir’s and commence a 2000m plus descent with standout vistas over the Central Ridge down to the waiting hot springs. Next up is the one everyone has been waiting for and the crowning jewel in this excellent combination of riding as we tackle the legendary NengGao Line. Complete with prefect high altitude single-track, jaw dropping views, and diverse flora and fauna we enjoy a ride of the highest quality that can only be found in a few parts of the world! A superb 3-5 day itinerary that covers world-class riding, infinite dramatic scenery, brilliant local culture, and a whole lot of FUN!

The Southern Slopes of Mt. Yushan

Get set for the spectacular southern slopes of Mt. Yushan and a rocking itinerary that takes you off the beaten track and into some of Taiwan’s most rugged terrain. Based around the dramatic, no-nonsense Southern Cross Link this is another itinerary fill of big climbs, monster downs, and plenty of wild back-country riding. We kick things off with a terrific ride through the hot spring terrain of the mango plantations before tackling the 2000m climb up to the legendary sea of clouds at the top of the southern pass. With striking scenery, amazing old-growth cypress forests and gushing waterfalls on almost every turn we make our way back down to our Japanese style lodging location deep in a Bunun Aboriginal village. Having explored the wonderful culture, food, and hospitality on offer we get set for a 30km plus off-road ride through the rugged back slopes of Mt. Yushan on a terrific mountain trail that crosses a number of suspension bridges. Don’t be surprised if you come across a barking deer, wild boar, or a Formosan rock monkey as we make our way deep into the jungle. Upon returning to our Bunun Tribal Village we commence the exhilarating downhill and undulating hill sections back to the mango fields and the waiting hot springs below! A flexible 3-5 day itinerary that covers plenty of territory, excellent trails, riveting culture, and some of the most naturally rugged terrain on the island!

The Southern Mango Plantations Extended

If the thought of being based in one location with soothing hot springs after every ride along with plenty of fresh fruit and yummy local cuisine appeals then consider the extended Southern Mango Plantations itinerary. With a number of excellent rides this itinerary is perfect for those who enjoy the flexibility of choosing how much they ride every day while enjoying the splendid local scenery, crystal clear swimming holes, and ample wildlife that resides here. The local town where we are based provides a number of great local restaurants to choose from and you can walk the main strip enjoying the local culture. The riding is also tremendous and includes high mountain restricted scenic areas, aboriginal farming trails, forest paths, and low altitude riverside riving. A flexible 3-4 day itinerary with excellent hot spring accommodation that is sure to recharge the batteries!

The Paiwan Tribal Route Two

Ride deep into the Southern Jungyang Mountain Range and into the heartland of the Paiwan and Rukai Tribal area on this memorizing journey into Taiwan’s ruggedly scenic interior. Based around our weekend itinerary of the same name, we have included two additional days to bring you a 4 day itinerary that is up there with the best. This trip is stacked with excellent riding, amazing culture, and wondrous mountain scenery that will leave you in awe of Taiwan. The high altitude forest road that winds deep into the mountains past thousand year old forests and hidden lakes is a definite highlight as is the pulsating 1500m plus descent down the mountainside. Together with the stone slate houses, carvings and totems that line the local villages the Paiwan Tribal Route Two is an excellent itinerary for those looking for solid riding and amazing local culture.

The Pingdong Express

No messing about with this one as we launch you straight into a hilly ride to the old Cijia Paiwan Village deep in the high mountains of Mt. Dawu. This great round circuit ride includes some fast single track, plenty of off-road and a narrow descent down to a refreshing swimming hole to cool off in. Next up is the superb 50km cross-island trail that takes you zipping across the width of Taiwan on a rollercoaster journey up to 1500m that provides plenty of fun and excitement. From here we enter the lush verdant back country of southeastern Taiwan and work our way through a mixture of back roads and farmland to the tropical paradise of Kenting on the southern tip of Taiwan. With wonderful beachside accommodation, yummy Thai and local restaurants, along with plenty of fun cafes and bars, this is a superb place to relax and enjoy some quality R&R! Of course Kenting is also home to some of the best cross-country riding on the island and we spend each morning exploring the fantastic local hills that are full of buffalo pastures, ripping single-track, farm roads and coastal trails! A super trip that takes in the best of Southern Taiwan and Kenting National Park!
